As a general rule, any dental problem which requires immediate treatment to alleviate severe pain, stop bleeding or save a tooth is considered an emergency. This also applies to severe infections that may be life-threatening.

  • Have you broken a tooth? Fast treatment may allow you to save the tooth.

  • Are you in severe pain? Severe pain and bleeding are signs of an emergency.

  • Do you have an infection? An abscess or serious infection in your mouth can be potentially life-threatening and requires immediate treatment. You may notice swelling of your gums or face.

  • Are you bleeding from the mouth? This is a potential sign of an emergency.
